Stanstead Abbotts and Stanstead St Margarets Neighbourhood Plan

Following an independent examination, East Herts District Council has decided to submit the Stanstead Abbotts and Stanstead St Margarets Neighbourhood Plan (SASMP) to a referendum.

The SASMP covers not only the parishes of Stanstead Abbotts and Stanstead St Margarets but also part of the parish of Great Amwell.  This is because the Plan is based on defined settlement areas.  The settlement of Stanstead Abbotts includes, for planning policy purposes, that (residential) part of Great Amwell covering River Meads, Amwell Lane and The Folly Estate.

Great Amwell Parish Council has been an active partner with the Parish Councils of Stanstead Abbotts and Stanstead St Margarets in producing the proposed Neighbourhood Plan

Only electors covered by the Plan can ultimately vote on whether, or not, it is adopted.  The referendum is likely to take place towards the end of January 2026
